Jazz singer - composer and pianist Chris Bennett who lives in Venice Beach California appears to be gathering substantial mommentum on the Jazz music scene in recent months, as her album Sail Away The Tahiti Sessions has garnered significant radio play on FM and internet radio stations in several states including; California, Washington State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Carolna and Texas, as well as on quality FM radio stations in faraway places such as Berlin, Germany, London, England and Vancouver, Canada.
When contacted in Berlin, Germany Matthias Kirsch the Music Director for JazzNet Radio 106.8 FM, said, "Chris Bennett's music is a significant part of our playlist. Her perfect phrasing and sense for swing and rhythm really stands out these days. She is able to deliver bittersweet melodies, as well as rockin' swing tunes." Matthias Kirsch is quite familiar with Chris Bennett and her music as she has guested on his show on several occasions and the American born Ms. Bennett also conducted the interviews in German. She is popular at one of Europe's most esteemed Jazz venues A-Trane located in Berlin and during the late summer of 2010 performed before a packed house on five straight nights.
On Sunday February 13th, Ms. Bennett will be appearing on Straight Talk With Tonja Walker, broadcasting on 1400 WSTC and 1350 WLNK at 2 pm Eastern Time and 11 am Pacific Time. Ms. Bennett also has upcoming interviews with award winning broadcast and print journalist Donna Linn, who has interviewed high profile individuals such as; Tommy Lasorda, John Ritter, Steve Allen and President Carter. Chris Bennett will also be appearing in the upscale Dallas based magazine A Distinctive Style, in the publication's April edition.
Highly regarded Jazz publications such as All About Jazz and JazzTimes have also amped up the buzz concerning the album Sail Away The Tahiti Sessions, and C. Michael Bailey from All About Jazz also pays tribute to Ms. Bennett's early beginnings as a disco diva who performed as the lead singer for Giorgio Moroder's Munich Machine and she sang background vocals for Donna Summer. "Bennett dons the silk of a Jazz singer and composer, as easily as she navigated such disparate genres as Disco and Adult Contemporary Pop. Chris Bennett, originally a native of Illinois, choreographed national tours for Jim Nabors, early in her career, sang on Johnny Mathis' records and she was nominated for a Grammy Award for co-writing the theme song to the Academy Award winning film Midnight Express.
On more than one ocassion Chris Bennett has performed at major events for the Gay and Lesbian communities, even though she is straight. The Gay and Lesbian communities have warmly embraced her, in part due to her efforts as an advocate for Equality Rights in Marriage. In November of 2010, along with her friend and former Disco diva Pattie Brooks, Chris Bennett performed her original song "Everybody Has The Right," in Palm Springs, California before thousands attending a Gay Lesbian gathering.
